Unseasonably warm weather these past few days; sunny with no clouds. Used a mercury thermometer; placed on top of a wood pile for the sun reading and on top of another wood pile under a spruce tree for the shade reading. Both wood piles are approximately the same height; the wood pile in the sun also receives shade, but the wood pile in the shade is always shaded. Readings taken at approximately 12:30PM on 11/8/11.

This morning at CMHS, it was slightly breezy and there was crispness in the air. The sun was shining and there was not a cloud visible in the sky. I laid the thermometer first on the concrete in the sun. I then laid the thermometer on the concrete in the shape. The concrete absorbs the sun radiation quickly, but does not function as an adequate insulator. This may be a factor as to why there was a 10°C difference.

Cool Autumn day with bright sunshine. The one in the shade was placed under the play equipment were a slight breeze could hit it. Current Temperature is 45 degrees. The one in the bright sun was place on a grassy surface that has turned brown with the cooler temperatures and could have affected the reading by absorbing and holding surrounding heat.

Very little shaded space--only a slight overhang from building. Measured at concrete walkway where there is direct sun which in turn will hold the sun's heat. This is a factor that may cause the shaded area to be warmer than a shaded area new trees or water. Neither of which are in or around our school building.

It was windy outside, the sky was clear and the sun was shinning bright. Both thermometers were placed on concrete which probably cause the temperature readings for both thermometers to be so high. The shaded area was covered by an overhead covering, which completely block the sun. The time of day was 1:00.

Clear, without clouds in the sky, and slightly windy. It feels like fall is here. I used a thermometer and placed it on the concrete sidewalk in the sun and took the reading. Then I placed the thermometer on concrete that is covered by shade from a tree. The readings were taken at 11:45AM on 11/8/11.

It was partly cloudy and a bit windy when I conducted my temperature readings on 11/8/11 at 11:25am. The cloud cover and breeze made the weather feel comfortable and made for a lower temperature reading.

The shade was from the oak trees, the ground is nice and moist from the rain this past week. The sun was on the concrete, it was nice and warm with no wind.
